Yesterday I attended a MySQL web Seminar about Performance Tuning.

They covered guidelines and best practices in the following areas:

  • Benchmarking and Profiling Concepts and Guidelines
  • Schema Optimization
  • Index Selection and Tuning
  • SQL Coding Techniques
  • Server Parameter Tuning Guidelines

One of the things I enjoyed is that the mySql guys are following the web 2.0 movement, so they explain techniques to tune up the database to host big tables with a lot of users and how to increase performance fine tunning the queries.
The host was Jay Pipes and I enjoyed the interview very much. The only issue was that I had to call a toll free number, because the audio goes by phone, and the quality plus the bad phone made it really hard to follow. In one of the Q & A comments someone mentioned voipbuster.com and next time I’m going to call from there.

Download a PDF resume of the best practices.
