Tiken Jah is a reggae singer from the Côte d’Ivoire. This country in West Africa was a French colony from 1893 till their independence in 1960.

In the latest years, where xenofobic politics and discrimination reign on Côte d’Ivoire, Tiken Jah has been living on the exile, in Bamako (capital of Mali) where many people comes to his concerts. In December of 2007, Fakoly was declared persona non grata in Senegal after criticizing president Abdoulaye Wade. To read more about him and hear his music visit his official site.

Fakoly, in my opinion an authentic revolutionary in his own rule, afirms:

I make music to “Wake up the conciences”

For sure he has woke up mine. And his lyrics reflect the injustice of his people, the africans, and the opressing political power in that continent where a few hold the power and the rest lives to the limit.  For this reason he has been threatened to death many times and had to move to another country.
